Playdough  helps children learn to be
creative thinkers. It can be the beginning of
their artistic explorations. Plus it has the
added benefit of helping them quiet down
and relax. Kids love playing with playdough.

The reality though, is that it tends to become a mess
of weird colors and get all dried out. After you have
had to buy more a few times you start to forget all
about the stuff. You can make your own very easily
and for very little money. Then if you have to throw
it out who cares. I have found a lot of recipes that
call for powdered Alum. I do not use a recipe that
includes Alum because there are hazards involved
with ingesting it. Young kids tend to eat all kinds of
weird things so why take the chance when you can
make good stuff without it.

What you need

1 cup flour
1 cup warm water
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon oil
1/4 cup salt
food coloring

Mix all ingredients, adding food coloring last.

Stir over medium heat until smooth.

Remove from pan and place on wax paper to cool
enough to work with

Knead until blended smooth.

Place in plastic bag or airtight container when it is
fully cooled.

That is it! Very simple!
Now you can have fun and create!
