Breathe some new life into some old fashioned games. The old fashioned games help you remember how to be a kid again. We all have a little kid hiding inside of us so why not try to pull it out and have some fun. You can use some of these ideas and try to think of what you used to play as a kid too. As always do not be afraid to make new twists on the old games. Share your memories of playing these games as a kid with your kids. Make new memories that they can pass on.
Flash Light Tag
This game is great to play as a family. It is a combination of Hide N' Seek and Tag. It evens things out more when there are people of all ages playing. It makes it easier for younger kids that have trouble finding hiding places. It also makes it easier for us old people that really have no interest in running to catch people. You can play it in a dark house or outside after dark. Everyone but the person that is "it" hides. Then after the person that is "it" does their count down they try to find people with a flash light. No running is needed you just have to shine the light on someone to catch them.
Variation: When a person is found and yells out their name and, "I'm caught," the "it" person must tag and freeze them. Other players have to unfreeze that person by tagging them. Once unfrozen they can hide again. If the "it" person is able to freeze everyone they win and a new person becomes it.
Balloon Volleyball
Oh come on, the kids love trying to bat at balloons anyway why not make it a family game. Make teams and keep score. Learn something about team work and laugh a lot. There is no such thing at being a pro at balloon volleyball so you can all have fun as you do horribly. Just make sure you play where you have enough room and nothing you can break. Then let loose and be silly.
Charades and Pictionary
These games are old time favorites and can be played when you have just a little time or a lot of time. Very simple, just have everyone write words down on little pieces of paper. As many pieces of paper as you will have time for. Then use them to play. Letting the kids choose some of the words makes this all the more fun. They are sure to come up with some words that will make everyone laugh. For smaller kids that have trouble acting out words maybe you can combine the games and let the younger ones just draw their words.
For a fun twist on this one why not add in some play dough and everyone has to try to make something that will help people guess the word.
Scavenger Hunts
This one can be fun and educational. By choosing what goes on the list you can make it simple, silly, or educational. If you want to make it harder give clues instead of just a list. For younger kids you can do colors, rhyming words, or shapes. For the older ones use things they are learning about at that time. It will still be fun and they can work their brains at the same time.
