Memory wire bracelets are a perfect place for girls to start learning about jewelry making. They are simple and fast to make.
While they can be very inexpensive to make you will need to buy a few things first.
You will need to find a good set of jewelry pliers from a craft store. You can find some sets that will not cost you much money. I think I got mine for around $20 at a Michael's Arts & Crafts Store. This is one step that you really can not do with out.
While you are at the store pick up some memory wire. They come in different sizes so make sure you think about what you will be using it for. The first time I bought some it was too small of a circle and it was very uncomfortable around the wrist.
Then comes the fun stuff. Have fun and pick out some beads. We like to get big packages of beads because you can make a lot of jewelry out of a coil of memory wire. If you have a bunch of beads at home ready to go you can make jewelry any time.
Making Bracelets
To start making a bracelet carefully unroll one end of the wire and measure around your wrist to how long you want the bracelet. Make sure you allow for a little extra to make the ends.
Then you need to use the wire cutter that came in the jewelry pliers set to snip the wire at the length you chose.
Take out the pliers that has the rounded end that is the thinnest. Pinch the wire as close to the end as possible and make a tight curl with the wire around the end. I like to give the curl a little pinch when I am done to be sure it will stay closed.
Now start added some beads and have fun. Make sure that the first and last bead have small enough holes that they will not be able to slip over the circle on the ends. To end the bracelet just leave enough room at the end to make another loop just like in the beginning.
You can make them any length you want. Just cut them to whatever length you choose.
Once you really get the hang of it you can start to get more creative.
Try adding some beads that dangle. You can have them dangle in the middle or at the ends.
