Your Fun Family - Jewelry
|
Macramé is the art of decorative knotting.
You can see examples of macrame when you look
at plant hangers and hammocks. Friendship
bracelets are also a form of macramé. You can use
all of these projects with embroidery floss and you
will have new kinds of friendship bracelets to
make and show your friends.
You will need
cording (hemp and jute work best)
clipboard or tape (we find it easier to clip the project onto a
clipboard or tape it to your jeans. This keeps it from moving as
you work with it.)
beads (optional)
First we need to start with the basic knots
Half Knot
Square Knot
Now you can move on to the jewelry making.
Macrame Bracelets
Place the right hand (brown) cord
over the two core (yellow) cords.
Place it under the left hand
(orange) cord.
Bring the left hand (orange) cord
under the two core cords and up
through the loop formed by the
core cord and the brown cord.
Tighten by pulling gently on the
knotting cords.
Start by making a half knot as
above.
The second half of the square knot
is the reverse of the first half.
Bring the orange cord (which is
now on the right hand side) behind
the two core cords.
Bring it over the left hand (brown)
cord.
Place the brown cord into the right
hand loop by going over the core
cords and under the orange cord.
Tighten by gently pulling on the
knotting cord.
